Tesla Inc. recently unveiled its "Optimus Gen 2" humanoid robot, whose features far exceed the functional prototype unveiled a year ago, which was met with a somewhat lackluster response.
However, at the Tesla AI Day event in 2022, CEO Elon Musk built up expectations, saying the company's robot will be "incredible" in five years amazing in 10 years.
The second-generation Optimus robot can now move 30% faster than before, while also being 10 kilograms lighter, with better stability and full-body control. This version of the robot includes all Tesla-designed controls and sensors, a new pair of hands with tactile sensing on all fingers, a controlled neck and articulated finger parts with the geometry of the human foot.
In a statement, Musk claimed that Optimus was "extremely underrated", adding that he expects demand for it to reach 10 billion or perhaps as many as 20 billion units.
