US internet company Meta Platforms is planning to launch its social network Threads in Europe in December to compete with Network X.
To comply with regulatory requirements, Meta will only give EU users the option to use the Threads network to follow content without a profile that would allow them to create their own posts, according to sources.
Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg said in October that nearly 100 million users use the Threads network at least once a month. He added that he believes the number of users could climb to one billion within a few years.
Next year, the network could gain around 40 million new users thanks to the launch of operations in the EU.
