Nvidia is currently the third most valuable company in the world

Winner

Nvidia is currently the third most valuable company in the world with a market capitalization of nearly $3 trillion, which means it's not very far from catching up to Apple. The solid rate at which Nvidia is growing tells us that it may actually catch up to the iPhone maker in the next decade.

The company, which is known for its graphics processing units (GPUs), reported above-trend revenue growth of 122% in the second quarter of fiscal 2025 to $30 billion. Nvidia is riding the AI wave , with its chips being deployed to train popular AI models such as ChatGPT. And now Nvidia is diversifying into areas beyond AI training to sustain its growth for the long term.

For example, at its August conference, Nvidia executives pointed out that AI inference applications account for more than 40% of its data center revenue. This is an important trend to note, as inference is the process of using a trained AI model to generate results from a new data set. Thus, Nvidia has moved beyond AI training and now derives a significant portion of its revenue from the AI inference space as well.

This is good news for the company's long-term prospects, as its presence in both of these markets should allow it to remain a dominant force in the AI chip space.

Defeated

The US Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against Visa on Tuesday (24.09.2024), accusing the payment network giant of maintaining an illegal monopoly in the debit card market. The lawsuit alleges that Visa is penalizing merchants and banks that choose alternative payment processing technologies, leading to higher fees for consumers and businesses. Visa's shares fell following the news.
